Amazon Commits $13.4B to Expand AI and Cloud Infrastructure in Australia
Amazon has announced a landmark $13.4 billion investment to bolster artificial intelligence and cloud services in Australia by 2029. The move marks the largest foreign tech investment in the country''s history, with funds directed toward expanding Amazon Web Services data centers and renewable energy projects.
Three new solar farms in Victoria and Queensland will join Amazon''s existing portfolio, bringing its Australian renewable energy projects to 11. These installations are projected to generate 1.4 million megawatt-hours annually—enough to power 290,000 homes.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hailed the investment as transformative for Australia''s AI capabilities. "This secure, resilient infrastructure positions Australia at the forefront of technological development," he stated. The commitment builds on Amazon''s 2012 market entry through its Sydney AWS Asia Pacific region.
